LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Friends of Cuyamungue,
Many thanks to all of you who supported our annual fundraiser this year by purchasing raffle tickets for the set of Peruvian whistling vessels. The drawing was held December 31 at Board secretary Jackie Haworth's home in Columbus, Ohio. Jackie, Stephanie Stephens, and I were joined by Jackie's neighbors, Sondra, 6-year-old Sylvia, and 1-year-old Chet. Sylvia agreed to draw the winning raffle ticket, and when she reached into the wooden box containing all the ticket stubs, she pulled out ticket #219 belonging to Terrie Ford in Powell, Ohio. We phoned Terrie immediately to congratulate her. She was completely surprised, saying she hadn't won anything since she was five years old and won a Roy Rogers flashlight! I delivered the whistles New Year's Day and watched as Terrie un-wrapped each one and the delicious aroma of cherry wood smoke filled the room. There were seven of us in her family room, enough to play all seven whistles, so we initiated them.
The fundraiser was a success, generating $4950, allowing us to be able to pay off the final private loan for the student building. It is great to start the new year debt free! We are looking forward to making a few more improvement at the Institute to support an interesting array of workshop for next summer. Look for our new dance space!
In addition to an introductory workshop in Boulder April 18-19 and a mini-Masked Trance Dance in Columbus, Ohio, May 15-18, the workshop season at the Institute will begin in May with a workshop on Limpias, Soul Retrieval and Folk Healing, with Joanna Rossi, a psychotherapist in Santa Fe. Joanna's article "Felicitas, Jung, The Shaman…And the Gift of Wonder," appears in this issue of the newsletter. In June, Board members Jackie Haworth and Rae Lecompte will offer an introductory weekend workshop, followed several days later by a Masked Trance Dance. This is a great chance for people new to ecstatic trance to experience both workshops, with a few days in between for appreciating Santa Fe and the surrounding natural beauty. In July Ki Salmen will return with another outstanding workshop based on her creative synthesis of ecstatic trance and soul retrieval. For the first time, we are offering a weeklong training for anyone who is interested in learning to teach ecstatic trance. The Teacher Training will be August 12-17, followed by Authentic Movement and Ecstatic Trance, with Bat-Sheva Koren and myself on August 20-24. Look for all the details later in the newsletter.
We are looking for nominations for new Board members!
It is time for us to elect 2-3 new Board members. If you are interested in serving for a three year term, please let me know soon at belindagore@hotmail.com. I will send you more information about our activities. Generally we ask that members attend two meetings a year, usually in Ohio and Santa Fe, to serve on at least one committee, and to maintain contact with other board members through email and phone call. The next Cuyamungue's Board of Directors meeting will be January 26 & 27, hosted by Rae Lecompte in Clearwater Beach, Florida. News from the Board meeting will be included in the next newsletter in early April.
I send each of you my best wishes for hope, abundance, and the willingness to engage with all that life offers,
Belinda
