We continue to explore the mind–body connection and its relationship to our lived, embodied experiences. In doing so, we deepen our understanding of how thought, emotion, movement, and presence weave together to shape the way we experience ourselves and the world around us.
There are moments in our practice of Ritual Postures when something subtle shifts—so quietly it feels less like a change and more like the inner air rearranging itself. A widening. A shimmering. A sense that something unseen has stepped a little closer. This embodied awareness brings us into feeling and felt-sense perception, revealing our innate capacity to heal, grow, and thrive.
As we’ve explored these practices together, we often reach for metaphors to describe this shift, and the language of the quantum world returns to us again and again—not as scientific proof, but as a way of pointing to the indescribable. In the quantum view, what looks empty is full of hidden activity. What appears still is humming with possibility.
When we open ourselves to this field of profound intelligence—one that operates within our bodies at a cellular level—we tap into a living presence that renews and restores us. Tuning into this embodied intelligence allows us to experience rejuvenation, healing, and deeper alignment.
Trance feels like that to us.
When we enter a Ritual Posture, when our bodies become vessels rather than performers, we begin to sense a subtle field within and around us, a space alive with potential and presence. We enter a trance state in which we move beyond ordinary mental processes—thinking, feeling, hoping—into a deep, silent awareness where one is fully present. A quantum-like field. A space where the expanded potential of our being becomes accessible.
These experiences shift who we are and how we integrate the fullness of ourselves into daily life.
The body feels it first:
• tingling in the palms
• warmth or heat rising through the body
• a sense of wind, as if a gentle breeze swirls around us
• sensations appearing and dissolving in different parts of the body
• an immediate shift in perception
• images rising suddenly as carriers of information
• time stretching, slowing, or folding in on itself
• the boundaries of “self” softening
• expanded presence, a deep feeling of oneness
• a rising wave of embodied consciousness
Within embodied trance, we often feel suspended in a stillness that is not truly still—an ecstatic state with its own texture and hum. A quiet interconnectedness. It feels as though we have stepped into a wider field, and that the field, somehow, has stepped into us.
Perhaps this is why the quantum metaphor fits. We are feeling our way toward mystery—toward the way the body understands beyond words.
Trance is a way of entering reality more fully:
a way of sensing the subtle currents within the body that shape our inner lives;
a way of honoring that the body is not merely matter, but a listening field—an instrument tuned to layers of meaning and memory that ordinary awareness rarely perceives.
This, to me, is the essence of the Quantum Body. Not a scientific claim, but an experiential truth.
A recognition that embodied trance opens a realm where the ordinary rules soften and a more fluid, connected, and spacious reality reveals itself—a reality in which we are both particle and wave, both self and field.
Ritual Postures open this doorway.
The body receives it.
And when we return, we bring back something subtle yet unmistakable: a shared sense that the world within us is far larger than we imagined… and that we, too, are more spacious, more interconnected, and more alive than we knew.
This is the field of embodied trance. And each time we enter it together, we remember a little more of who we truly are.
From the quantum level, we are feeling our way toward mystery—toward the way the body understands beyond words.

The name “CUYA” carries with it both history and vision. Rooted in our origins as the Cuyamungue Institute, it now also serves as an acronym — C.U.Y.A. — a guiding symbol that unites our mission:
C — Consciousness: The field of shared awareness that arises in Collective Presence, where the “We” awakens beyond the “I” – moving from the “Me to the We.”
U — Unity: Our alignment with the Cycles of Nature and the rhythms of the cosmos, reminding us that we are woven into a greater fabric of reality. This sense of unity reminds us that our awareness is the shared consciousness that connects all living beings.
Y — Your Awakening: The inner journey of Embodiment and Wisdom, where through direct experience the body remembers. At the CUYA Institute, this awakening is nurtured through Ritual Body Postures and ecstatic trance, where the body itself becomes the doorway to wisdom, presence, and transformation.
A — Ancestral Wisdom: Roots. Our connection to Sacred Lineage, honoring those who walked before us and rooting us in belonging and continuity. Our founder, anthropologist Felicitas D. Goodman looked to some of the oldest, most authentic ancestral records we have — the world’s collection of early and indigenous art — and decoded selected artifacts as embodied “ritual instructions.”
Together, the Four Pathways of C.U.Y.A. — Consciousness, Unity, Your Awakening, and Ancestral Wisdom — form a single tapestry of practice. They remind us that awakening is not an abstract idea but something we live: through the body in Your Awakening, through nature’s cycles in Unity, through community in shared Consciousness, and through the guidance of Ancestral Wisdom.
