An exploration of the how and why altered states can come about and their possibilities. Here we look to what science can tell us and dispels the metaphysical haze that all too often surrounds the subject of altered states of consciousness. We discuss the research of parapsychology; the study psychic phenomena (extrasensory perception, telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, and psychometry) and other expereinces related to near-death experience and synchronicity.
Dr. Charles T. Tart is known for work on the nature of consciousness & altered states, as a founder of transpersonal psychology & for research in scientific parapsychology. He has had more than 250 articles published in professional journals and books, including lead articles in such prestigious scientific journals as Science and Nature. His two classic books, Altered States of Consciousness (1969) and Transpersonal Psychologies (1975), were widely used texts that were instrumental in allowing these areas to become part of modern psychology.
