The VanPools’ new book, An Anthropological Study of Spirits looks at “the cultural importance of spirits, what spirits want, and how humans interact with them” with historical and cross-cultural examples. Humanity has long sought the help of help of a force beyond us, for healing on the spiritual and physical level, for greater perception and divining. Here they look deeply into intention and meaning, the physiology and psychology’s impact on our interaction with these realms, and the contributions to the field of CI’s founder, the late anthropologist Felicitas D Goodman.
The VanPools are popular professors of archaeology and anthropology at the University of Missouri, and members and advisors of the Cuyamungue Institute.
