Lawson’s illustrated, in-depth report on his online survey into specific and nuanced characteristics — the beat, rhythm, pitch, frequency, timbre and more — of ritual’s sonic driving for his MA Thesis. Paul contributed four sound files from the drum and rattle collection we use for Ecstatic Trance / Ritual Body Postures, and Lawson credits his participation in CI’s Zoom events for key insights and questions, and uses the 200-210 beats per minute that CI’s founder, the late anthropologist Felicitas Goodman determined as the optimal for the sonic driving we use in her revival of the ancient tradition at the heart of our work at CI.
