Female Shamans of Peru – Guest: Bonnie Glass-Coffin, Prof of Anthroplogy

Bonnie shares her research and field work with female shamans in Peru and their spirituality and healing practices, past and present. Male shamans, she observes, rally forth into the spirit world to do individual combat with the sources of spiritual illness, whereas female shamans try to involve their patients more directly in their own healing. Her transformative experiences while studying with Peruvian shamans for over 30 years inspire her work on campus. She leads an initiative to find common ground among the different faiths and spiritual paths — including non-human consciousness — while assisting students in tackling life’s big questions. A visionary and bridge-builder, she believes that educating the whole person (head and heart) should be at the core of a liberal arts education.
