CUYA Institute Cultural Appreciation / Appropriation Statement

Our Institute Cultural Appreciation vs. Appropriation Statement

CUYA – Cuyamungue Institute seeks to provide an environment for the encouragement of continued education, exploration and the linking of current and traditional knowledge through the advancement of teaching, learning and researching the human story. The Cuyamungue Institute continues to build bridges with communities globally.

We recognize and seek to actively engage with the expertise of tradition-bearers and educators to foster new cross-cultural pathways to enrich cultural understandings and appreciation. We recognize and continue to support that Indigenous peoples own the right to maintain, control, protect and develop their cultural heritage,
traditional knowledge, art, oral history and traditional cultural expressions.

As an educational institution, our mission includes the respectful sharing of ideas and traditions to help strengthen the diversity of the world.
