Josh writes: “My preferred symbol for the work I do is a bridge because I create connections between biological and human sciences. But more importantly, I connect technical details with real-world decision-making by converting the details into valuable information that is relevant, objective, and accurate. My hope is that these bridges support decisions that are more nuanced, valued, and supported. I’ve discovered that the key to supporting communities in conflict is giving them the power to be able to navigate their way through uncertain future and my approach, which I’ve developed for managing fisheries, turns out to have relevance to so many different conflicts we have in society today. My goal is to be able to share this wisdom and experience with anybody who wants to hear about it because I have personally witnessed the amazing outcomes of empowered and informed communities working together. Our world needs more of it.”
