Join in on the path of healing and transformation—a call to action that inspires us all to become active participants in creating a culture where everyone can thrive, free from abuse in all its forms.
It’s easy to recognize blatant abuse. But what about the undercurrent of pervasive, hidden abuse—so widespread in our culture that it feels almost normal? Our guest observes, “We may all be so deeply conditioned to collective, insidious, and pervasive abuse that we no longer recognize it. We might sense something’s not right, yet often the problem is not readily apparent.”
Karen Tate knows this all too well. An admitted abuse survivor, she shares, “I considered myself savvy, educated, and an advocate for fairness and equality. I thought abuse was something that happened to others, not to me.”
In her healing journey, Karen spent years researching abuse and authored a book on the subject. She shares her personal journey alongside her husband of 40 years, recounting real-life, anecdotal stories drawn from hundreds of interviews. She also provides tools that aided in her own recovery and examines the gatekeepers and their methods of operation in academia, corporations, religions, workplaces, and even within well-meaning family and friends. She titled her book: “Normalizing Abuse: A Commentary on the Culture of Pervasive Abuse.”
